Family manners, field work, obedience... whatever a gundog needs to work, hunt and live well, with their family.
How We Train
As a trainer, it's my job to find a way to help a dog learn. I enjoy problem solving and have worked with all ages, gun shy, run-off dogs and even bird shy dogs. Of course, the easy natural dogs are fantastic to work with also, and every dog no matter their skill level, has many lessons to teach me as well. I use no set technique; I learn as many techniques and styles as possible to create a mental "library" of techniques. Then the owner and I choose the gentlest most effective method possible for each dog. I use clicker training in young dogs and to help teach concepts quickly, but also use an e-collar later to reinforce, unless the owner prefers to train without. There is no age too old or too young to learn, but the methods we use will vary.

Lacey - Training 1
Today we added in the e-collar also. Lacey started by trying to return to me, so I shorted up her slip lead which I was stil using and pulled it straight up as I said whoa. She did well but I can see that she still thinks returning to me is in her head. I tried giving her a command without the ecollar and though delayed a second she stopped well. She will have to eventually realise that returning to me does not turn off the e-collar, stopping does, but I tried to make it easy for her and have her already RIGHT by me. This worked well and she was stopping well without correction for most of 20 repeats (over 20 minuntes.) She acted best with lots of praise and time inbetween commands. We will build confidence in what ecactly I am wanting next time and not ask her to Whoa at all away from me for now. All in all a good start.
